For teachers
Teaching Klara and the Sun
Everything on the student site, organised for the classroom: a twelve-week scheme of work, lesson sequences that follow the structure of the text, and assessment guidance aligned to the Edexcel International GCSE criteria.
Scheme of work
Twelve weeks from first context lesson to full exam essay, mapped to the novel’s six Parts and the student site’s pages.
TeachLessons by Part
Lesson-by-lesson sequences for each Part: focus, page references, key questions, activities and written outcomes.
AssessAssessment
The AO1/AO4 mark grid in practical terms, twenty exam-style questions, and lessons from the Pearson exemplar scripts.
How the two sites fit together
The student site follows the structure of the text and builds towards the exam: each Part guide ends with an analytical writing task, and the Exam Skills page carries the paragraph and essay method. Set the Part guides as pre-reading or catch-up (they are written to work for students who have missed lessons, home-schoolers and independent revisers), and use the lesson sequences here for classroom teaching. Every lesson’s written outcome can be routed through the feedback tool.
Using the feedback tool with a class
The marking desk gives annotations, never marks, deliberately. Comment-only marking keeps students reading the comments, and keeps you the sole source of grades. Suggested routine: students draft in class or for homework, submit to the desk, redraft in a different colour, and bring both versions to you. You mark the redraft against the grid; the tool has already done the first-pass reading. It declines off-task use and will not write paragraphs for students.
A note on copyright
The site quotes the novel only in short extracts for criticism and review, and all summaries and commentary are original. Nothing from the Pearson specification, sample assessment materials or published study guides is reproduced. Students still need their own copies of the novel, the site is designed to be read alongside the text, not instead of it.
